Warmup Dance-Off

Warmup Dance-Off

I’m going to be honest. I don’t pay much attention to women’s sports. It’s not that I don’t respect that these women are athletes, I do, it is just that softball (unless there’s drinking), volleyball, and women’s basketball just don’t impress me much. I’d much rather see LeBron James take an outlet pass from Kevin Love and dunk it down hard rather than watch Lisa Leslie take a fastbreak in for a layup. I don’t hate women’s sports, I just haven’t had any interest in them at all. That might be changing. An old friend sent me some videos of Michelle Jenneke and Anastasia Ashley doing their warmup dances before racing and surfing respectively. Michelle has made quite the name for herself not only on her track abilities, but on her super-cute (and hot?) pre-race dances, and Anastasia is an American big wave surfer and model. The big question is, who’s dance is better?

Michelle Jenneke

Michelle is a 21 year-old competitive hurdler, and more recently model, from New South Wales, Australia. As a teen, Jenneke was an exemplary athlete. She finished first in the 100 meter hurdles at the 2010 Australian Junior Championships, and took home another first-place finish in the 4×100 meter relay which set an Australian youth record. She has also placed in the top-5 of multiple other events including a silver medal for the 100 meter hurdles in the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. She has said in interviews that her hobbies include activities like rugby, soccer and handball (best tomboy ever?!?). She is currently studying mechatronics (which, according to Wikipedia, is a multidisciplinary field of engineering that includes a combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, control engineering and computer engineering,) at Sydney University… She’s brainy too. Below is the video that caught everyone’s attention.

Anastasia Ashley

Anastasia is a 28 year-old Big Wave surfer who was born in California, but moved to Hawaii as a young child. The story goes that she entered a surf competition with a beat-up, discarded board she found in the trash when she was six years old. She would end up winning that tournament, and it wasn’t long before she was being furnished with brand new boards from her sponsors… when she was seven. I was excited when I had some change to buy candy and baseball cards when I was seven. She has won two National Scholastic Surfing Association titles, and the Professional Surfing Tour of America championship. On the modeling side, she has appeared in many magazines including Maxim and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in 2010. The video below is being passed around the internet a lot, it seems (and with good reason)… I can’t stand the music on it though, so you might want to mute your computer speakers.

So, there you have it. Now it’s time to decide, who’s dance was better?
